Rosie and the girls

This ongoing documentary project follows Rosie, a young single mother, and her two daughters, Skylar and Nova, exploring themes of motherhood, resilience and female empowerment. Rooted in spirituality, sustainability and a deep connection to nature, Rosie’s approach to parenting shapes the intimate world of the project, from sunrise walks and herbal remedies to quiet moments of play, care and affection within the home.

Through close documentary observation, I capture the tenderness and complexity of everyday family life while exploring Rosie’s journey of rebuilding herself after domestic abuse. Influenced by feminist documentary practice and ideas surrounding the female gaze, the work aims to challenge stereotypical representations of young single motherhood by centring love, agency and emotional honesty.
