About
Imogen Glanville is a documentary photographer whose work explores feminism, intimacy, and the politics of looking. Her practice often begins with questions of visibility - how women are seen, how they see themselves, and how photography can reclaim agency in spaces shaped by power. She is drawn to quiet, emotionally charged moments that reveal how gender and experience intersect in everyday life. Working across photography and mixed media, Glanville often merges personal and political narratives, blurring the line between subject and storyteller. Collaboration and care are central to her process, whether she is photographing others or turning the camera on herself. Through these exchanges, she explores how the act of being seen can become both empowering and unsettling. Influenced by the emotional honesty of Kaitlin Maxwell and the feminist theory of Joey Soloway, her work questions how representation shapes perception. Glanville’s images linger on the emotional textures of everyday life, revealing the quiet negotiations of safety, selfhood, and belonging that underpin contemporary womanhood. Her practice invites viewers to look more closely - to consider how the politics of gender and gaze continue to shape what we see, and to reflect on photography’s potential as a tool for empathy and resistance.
