Dreamers

Dreamers explores the realities facing young creatives trying to build a life within their chosen fields. The project follows three emerging artists navigating different barriers within the cultural landscape.

For singer Vimbai Rose, the struggle is shaped by social inequality. As she reflects, “being a young Black creative is a different situation. I definitely find myself having to work ten times harder to be appreciated.”

For the band Herbie Bone, the closure of live music venues has narrowed opportunities to perform and sustain their work. Meanwhile, drag artist Joshua Lee challenges expectations within drag culture itself, performing as a gender nonconforming queen in an industry that often prioritises ‘passable’ femininity, a standard increasingly reinforced by shows like RuPaul's Drag Race.

Together, their stories reflect the persistence required to pursue creative work in a cultural landscape shaped by inequality, economic pressure and shifting expectations.
